Girl Rising (2013)

Girl Rising (2013)

A thought-provoking and dynamic film dealing with inequalities of education towards young girls. Directed by Richard Robbins, the film illustrates the lives of 9 young girls who face inequality and social constraints but strive for an education that can help break down the barriers built around them. Watch the film and take part in the movement for education for girls in countries where they are oppressed and hidden from society. It is a global movement and one where people need to participate in the discussions and educate themselves with the issue surrounding around 66 million girls in the world.

Food For the Mind

i reason, Earth is short,
and anguish----absolute,
and many hurt,
but, what of that?
i reason, we could die----
the best Vitality
cannot excel Decay,
but, what of that?
i reason, that in Heaven
someohw, it will be even,
some new Equation, given---
but, what of that?

So Lost, So Lost

Why do I feel lost? Why do I feel like I do not know what to do? Where I want to go ? Who I am?

The past year and even now, it seems as if the whole world is crashing down on me. As if the marble slab of stone perched precariously atop the Corinthian column came tumbling down...As if an island popped out of the sea-blue waters in front of you...As if new sprouts of grass are growing in the desolate desert? I thought I was so sure of what I wanted to do, what I sought out to do, but then it, they, you, life, something happened and I am lost.

Before I wrote about who am I?, and today (in this moment) I am still no closer than figuring out who I am. How long until I find myself? Or maybe how long until I see and acknowledge myself?

We'll see...

Home

...is where the Heart is.
...sweet Home.
...still searching, still understanding.
...is two worlds apart.
...is friends and families.
...is You.
...is Me.
...is Us.
...is fights, deep conversations, cries, laughs, and smiles.
...is built with love and dreams.
...is not where you live but where they understand you.
...is misunderstandings, miscommunications, and missed opportunities.
...a sacred place.
...is life.
...is death.

Fortune Cookie Wisdom

"As we grow up, we realize it becomes less important to have a ton of friends, and more important to have real ones."

I am who I am...but who am I?

Everyday we are faced with questions about ourselves, constantly thinking consciously or unconsciously about them. Everyday we are faced with decisions about ourselves, actions and thoughts clicking or fighting with each other. Everyday we are faced with uncertainty or overconfidence of who we are. Everyday-Everyday-Everyday----It's always everyday of our lives.

It's like our preference of a breakfast beverage or food, whether to eat now or later because "I am hungry" "It looks good", going to school or work, choosing a maroon hibiscus pattern scarf or sunshine yellow scarf, making up with a loved one after a spat the night before or ignore it the whole day, taking that offer to work in Finland or staying in that lowly position in the city, leaving for college in a different country or near home...the behavior, the decisions, the actions, the thinking of each individual is everyday-everyday-everyday----always everyday.

Do we really know ourselves? What does it mean to be "me"? To be "myself"? Sometimes people do things without consciously thinking, speaking hurtful or ignorant words to others, reacting without realizing...but is that even true? How do I know who I am if I don't realize what I am doing?

"To be, or not to be, that is the question." - Shakespeare Hamlet
